Staples Economic Development Authority (SEDA)

Staples is an active, growing community. Our community is home to award-winning healthcare, Lakewood Health System; a strong school district, Staples-Motley Schools; advanced training opportunities at Central Lakes College; a skilled workforce; and countless recreational and cultural opportunities for all ages.

Staples is located at the junction of U.S. Highway 10 and Minnesota Highway 210. Our city sits on the border between Todd and Wadena Counties, about 150 miles northwest of Minneapolis-St. Paul, about 150 miles southwest of Duluth-Superior and 110 miles east of the Fargo-Moorhead area. Residents enjoy small town living with the advantage of all the perks offered by greater Minnesota.

Staples is well served by transportation services including busy highways, BNSF Railroad and the Staples Airport. Our airport, adjacent to an expanding industrial park, has a 3,300 ft hard surfaced runway lit with instrument approach. The Staples Airport provides a self-service fuel pump, private hanger space, and 22 city-owned hangers available for lease.

Over the past 10 years, our city has focused on infrastructure improvements to provide a secure foundation for economic growth. Our community has also benefited from improvements to Highway 10, a new highway overpass, and detailed MN Design Team planning. As of 2017, four of our largest businesses are either currently expanding/renovating or have expanded/renovated within the last year: Lakewood Health System, Sourcewell, Central Lakes College – Staples Campus, and Stern Rubber. This is in addition to extensive, commercial redevelopment along the Highway 10 corridor over the last 7 years.

Our community has many attractions, activities, and events you do not find in other small towns: Centennial Auditorium, Dower Lake Recreation Area, Pine Grove Park, Crow Wing River, Living Legacy Gardens, The Vintage golf course, Lumberbats amateur baseball, and unlimited hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities. Staples is recognized for its strong fine arts community: adult and children choirs, band and orchestra, Lamplighter theatre company, Staples Arts Council and Five Wings Art Council.

The Staples Economic Development Authority works hard to attract new businesses and to assist existing businesses with their expansion needs. We welcome your interest in our community and look forward to talking with you about your business needs and plans.
