Student Election Judge Trainees

Position Objectives:

If you are a high school junior or senior and at least 16 years old then you can work as an election judge on Election Day

We look forward to having high school students participate in our election judge program. The Student Election Judge Program is a great way for students to be a part of the election process before they turn 18. We hope that this kind of hands-on learning will encourage more students to participate in future elections and help instill an interest in our democracy.

To qualify to be a student election judge, you must:

• Be 16 or 17 years olds
• Be enrolled in a high school in Minnesota
• Have the approval of your parent/guardians and principal
• Be a U.S. Citizen
• Be able to read, write and speak English

You may be excused from school to serve as a student election judge if you submit a written request to your principal at least ten (10) days before the election. You must also fill out an application that is to be signed by your parent/guardian and your principal.

You may choose to work from 6:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon or 3:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Students are paid $15/hr for two hour online training and for time spent working in the polling site on election day.

If you are interested in being a student election judge, please fill out an application form and return it to City of Staples Elections.
